Photo 22 – On the Prowl
Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Date: June 25, 2017
Description: Backlit Cheetah in the Okavango Delta (Acinonyx jubatus)
As the sun was setting in the Okavango Delta this male cheetah woke up to go hunting for his dinner. Three interesting facts about Cheetahs: 1) They rely on speed to catch their prey and can reach speeds of up to 70 m.p.h. in short bursts, 2) Cheetahs are the only cat that cannot completely retract its claws, 3) Cheetahs are the largest cat that can still purr because like domestic cats their larynx is stiff.
