Photo 4 – Hidden in the Reeds
Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Date: June 28, 2017
Description: Little Bee-Eater (Merops pusillus)
There is no prize for guessing what these colorful bees eat. They catch insects in the air especially bees, wasps and hornets. They are very careful with the stingers, which are either removed by striking the insect on a hard object, or they swallow the insect headfirst. The little bee-eater is the smallest African bee-eater.
